INT: Hey, the last time you were on ‘Daybreak’ Ricky Gervais stormed your interview. I don’t know if you remember— RDJ: Of course I do! God bless his heart. INT: He doesn’t seem to be around tonight. I guess he’s leaving awards ceremonies alone for a while, maybe. RDJ: Aww, that’s— that’s tragic! INT: You were very funny tonight. Eric Idle just told us you made him laugh the most. You and Jude RDJ: He did? INT: He did! RDJ: Eric Idle said that about me?! INT: Yes! RDJ: That’s cool. INT: Do you love these events RDJ: Uh well, what am i gonna do, you know? I’m part of the furniture. Would I rather maybe be at home, eating a cheeseburger and watching UFC? I don’t know. SUSAN: That’s for another night. RDJ: That’s for another night. INT: We’re delighted Colin Firth won. Are you pleased as well? RDJ: Yeah. I mean, look it’s really cool to be nominated— [enter Robert’s boyfriend, Jude Law] INT: Jude! Come and talk to Robert! You’re live on British TV. You two are great tonight. JUDE: Thanks. We loved it. Introduced by Bob Hope. [turns to Robert] We were introduced by Bob Hope! RDJ: I know. JUDE: It’s quite special! INT: You know Colin, I’m sure. We are all delighted. What are you thinking about? JUDE: I’m just thrilled. I mean it’s a fun night, you know? And anyone who walks away with one of the statuettes— obviously it’s a very special night. I was thrilled to be there and see everyone having such a good time. RDJ: Please, please don’t tell me the Brits are going to start dominating the Oscars again for a bunch of years. JUDE: Well, you know what will happen is next year we’ll get punished for it, won’t we? RDJ: [laughs heartily] JUDE: So I better not do anything half-decent for a couple of years~ INT: Do you think The King’s Speech is a deserved Best Film winner JUDE: Yes, of course. INT: Was your favorite nominated? JUDE: Um … wasn’t even nominated. RDJ: What was it? JUDE: I’m not gonna say! RDJ: Oh, say it and I’ll say mine! JUDE: No, no, no! INT: What was yours? RDJ: Between his reserve and my hubris—
Jude: “We are honored to single out those wizards of technological mastery who have helped create the most spectacular films of…” Robert: “The person whose idea of a good time is muttering to themselves about technical adjustments while you’re suspended upside down from a rig in front of a green screen for six hours.” Jude: “Relax. Their tireless work and collaborative…” Robert: “Like the guy who comes up to you when you’re about to take a leak and says, “I’m sorry. Can I just put sixty tracking dots on your face first? That type of guy.” Jude: “Stop it. I’m not here to be a part of your games where you get, you know, people coming up to you at the afterparty and saying how witty you are and how charming you are.” Robert: “Or both.” Jude: “Shut up. It’s their moment. You know, if it wasn’t for them your closest association with a superhero would have been in 2001 when you got busted in a cheap hotel with a woman dressed as Batgirl.” ::intense stance:: Robert: “Okay, first of all, that cheap hotel room cost $1250 a night with a corporate discount, secondly it was 2000 not 2001 and most importantly she was dressed as Wonder Woman. And that attention to detail is what has won the respect of all the Academy voters, for these fine men and women.”
